Fiona Carruthers - Head Teacher / Proprietor

Qualifications: NNEB

Experience:

Fiona successfully completed her NNEB training in 1989 and since then has gained extensive experience and knowledge of child development whilst holding a variety of positions. She has performed exceptionally well in a number of nanny positions.

Whilst in England she worked for five years in a government school in the reception (P1) class where she competently supervised individual, group and whole class sessions. She was responsible for planning and implementing purposeful and enjoyable activities catering for the needs of the individual child.

Whilst in Bermuda Fiona has worked in a reputable Nursery for five years, working her way to the position of Head Teacher. She undertook responsibility for a class whilst also maintaining responsibility for the daily management of the Nursery. She thoroughly enjoyed this leadership role and was constantly praised on her level of proficiency.

As the Head and proprietor of Once Upon a Time Fiona brings a multitude of experience and a variety of qualities and skills. She will undertake the leadership and management of the school with passion and vigour. She is determined to provide an excellent learning environment for all children, and aspires to provide high quality, meaningful and rewarding education for all children. She will work relentlessly to give parents the peace of mind of knowing their child will receive excellent care and a high quality education.

Sarah Perinchief-Paltl – Deputy Head

Qualifications: NNEB

Experience:

Sarah is a Bermudian who completed her secondary education in the UK, where she also gained her NNEB in 1999.

Upon her return to Bermuda after graduation from college Sarah immediately took up a post in a nursery school and has subsequently worked her way up to become Deputy Head of one of the Island’s foremost pre-school institutions. During her career as a nursery school teacher Sarah has taken responsibility for classes of children ranging in age from 2 to 5 years and as Deputy Head she has also been required to lead the school in the absence of the Head Teacher.

Sarah will bring with her to Once Upon a Time a well-earned reputation as an energetic, caring and conscientious nursery school teacher.

Janet Lee Wynands - Classroom Teacher

Qualifications: Early Childhood Education

Experience:

Janet is an enthusiastic born and raised Canadian who is very passionate about working with today's youth. She has successfully completed her Early Childhood Education training in 1996 and has been working with children for many years prior to that.

Janet has worked for two Child Care Centers in Nova Scotia between 1996 and 2006 where she then took time off to study Medical Office Assistant. Her first love is working with children and was anxious to join the Once Upon a Time team. She has worked with children as young as 3 months old up to school age within many different settings.

Janet has a reputation as being an energetic, kind, and outgoing individual with the skills to provide essential learning opportunities for children of all ages. She looks forward to bringing her skills to Bermuda and learning more every day.
